Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) is a Rural Electric Cooperative serving parts of Jefferson, Grainger, Hamblen, and Sevier counties in East Tennessee. We currently have an opportunity for an IT Help Desk Technician in our New Market, Tennessee office.  AEC offers a highly competitive total compensation package.

The IT Helpdesk Technician provides professional support for a wide range of technologies used by the Cooperative’s end users. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as primary point of contact for technical needs of end users including but not limited to; answering how-to questions, providing system and network status, providing remote support and troubleshooting various technologies
  • Responsible for documenting support requests received via email, telephone, electronic ticketing systems, etc.
  • Create and maintain IT internal documentation
  • Ability to handle majority of requests without  assistance, following procedures and using available knowledge base and help tools provided, to follow issue through to a proper resolution
  • May require occasional overtime and may require reporting to work after hours to assist with emergency or outage conditions
  • Perform other duties as requested

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years experience working in a help desk or technical support environment and/or customer service
  • Associate’s degree in Information Systems or related field desirable but not required
  • Microsoft certifications and experience working with remote assistance tools desirable
  • Will consider an equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and experience

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency using and supporting common enterprise software including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), and remote support tools
  • Exceptional customer interaction skills and professionalism
  • Effectively communicate moderately complex technical information, ideas, and results in both oral and written form
  • Ability to exercise discretion when working with confidential data
  • Regular on time attendance is required
  • Perform all duties in accordance with established safety practices
  • Must be able to read, write, and do arithmetic
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
  • Availability for occasional travel for training and meetings
  • Ability to work in a team environment

We currently have an opportunity for an Outside Plant Technician our New Market, Tennessee office. AEC offers a highly competitive total compensation package.

The Outside Plant Technician is responsible for the effective installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of fiber to the x (FTTx) outside plant including but not limited to fiber optic cables, drop cables, optical splitters, and associated equipment. 

        

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required with additional training in electronics, engineering, networking or telecommunications preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience with the installation and operation of FTTx components including but not limited to central office, transport, feeder, distribution, drops, cabinets, splitters, ONTs, splice points, jumpers, hand holes, and pedestals
  • Have or acquire the skills and techniques necessary to distinguish exposed live parts from other parts of electric equipment, determine the nominal voltage of exposed live parts, and the clearance distances
  • Strong working knowledge of OTDR operation and testing, light testing, fiber troubleshooting and fiber plant design
  • Able to splice fiber using industry standards
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Tennessee Class D Driver's License with an insurable driving record.
  • Certification through the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) as a Fiber Optics Installer (ETA FOI) and a Fiber Optics Technician – Outside Plant (ETA FOT-OSP) or ability to become certified within 12 months.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform all necessary activities in the installation, maintenance, repair and ongoing operations of the outside fiber plant used to deliver residential and commercial services
  • Scope jobs for direct installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial accounts and fiber plant extensions
  • Provide timely and courteous service and communication to members, coworkers and the general public
  • Mandatory on-call duty with overtime and on-call shift rotations are required
  • Must be able to regularly lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 100 lbs with assistance
  • Requires climbing and working in high places

Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) provides electric service to 47,000 members in East Tennessee. We own and maintain an electric distribution system that covers 600 square miles in parts of Grainger, Hamblen, Hawkins, Jefferson, and Sevier counties.

We currently have an opportunity for an Accounts Receivable Clerk/Cashier in our New Market, Tennessee office. The Accounts Receivable Clerk/Cashier is responsible for processing member payments, disconnects and reconnects, responding to member concerns or other member related issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process member payments in person, via telephone and mail/night drop entry
  • Balance drawer, including reconciling credit cards, preparing bank deposit slips and Comp U Safe drops daily
  • Answer phone inquiries about bill payment arrangements
  • Maintain member account information, i.e. recurring credit cards, levelized billing, etc.
  • Process charge backs and returns for bad checks and credit cards
  • Prepare collection and/or exchange orders on delinquent accounts and for returned items
  • Maintain and process ACH information
  • Process Recurring Credit Cards on due dates and maintain information on member’s account
  • Process and maintain Budget Billing information
  • Prepare daily cash report for Accounting Department
  • Process collect card payments
  • Coordinate with members and agencies for bill assistance programs
  • Perform all duties in accordance with established AEC policies and safety practices

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Six months to one year in a customer service environment
  • Bilingual Spanish desirable

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient in the use of computers to process payments and access the Cooperative’s customer information service software and outage management system
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding AEC proprietary information and department information
  • Ability to calculate figures and general ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Operate office machines such as typewriter, computer terminal, credit card machine, and adding machines
  • Operate company vehicle to perform required job duties such as picking up mail at post office and/or picking up and dropping off at area banks
  • May require occasional overtime
  • May require reporting to work after hours to assist during storm or emergency outages
  • Regular on time attendance is required
